Top holiday destinations for film buffs
Looking for inspiration for your next holiday? Check out these film and TV set destinations around the world.
1) Tudela- Game of Thrones
Hit television series Game of Thrones added Tudela in Northern Spain as one of their key filming locations in season 6. The quaint town of Tudela has a large picturesque cathedral and fascinating historic buildings. Although it hasn’t always been the most popular touristic spot in Northern Spain, people are now attracted to Bardenas Reales Nature Park - a breath-taking desert landscape where a lot of the filming took place.
2) Thailand- The Beach
The famous Leonardo Dicaprio film ‘The Beach’ is filmed on the idyllic island of Koh Phi Phi Leh, surrounded by stunning vertical cliffs, tropical blue seas and white sandy beaches. Due to its small size, you can’t actually spend the night on the island of Koh Phi Phi, but there are very popular tourist locations nearby such as Krabi and Phuket that are just as breath-taking.
3) New Zealand- Lord of the Rings
The whole trilogy of Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand, so if you’re a fan, this is definitely worth considering as your next holiday destination. For an adventure-filled break, visit the quaint village of Matamata where you can tour the set of Lord of the Rings or take a trip to Tongariro National Park, home to the Dark Lord Suaron to see some impressive landscapes and the volcanic rock formations.
4) London, Notting Hill
A break within the UK can be just as enjoyable as a holiday abroad, and the colourful houses along Portobello Road can leave you feeling like you are on the set of Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. With so many events happening in Notting Hill, such as the famous Notting Hill carnival, and lots to see like the chic sights of the Ritz, you are bound to feel like a celebrity.
